More support should be given to producers

Local producers and farmers can play a critical role in the economy of Barbados once they are given the necessary assistance.

These sentiments were shared by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, during the RDC (Rural Development Commission) Training and Information Meeting for Agrofest 2017, which was held at the RDC Headquarters yesterday morning. Addressing the clients and booth owners, Paul said that there needs to be serious support given to them as producers because they have the ability to play an extremely important role in terms of satisfying the particular requirements needed to start earning some foreign exchange in the country.

Paul commended RDC for over the years working with small business owners and helping them to grow their business, with not only helping people, but making sure new persons are given the opportunity to grow their business as well. He further lauded them on always being there to help people achieve whatever potential they see in their businesses and commended them for investing in people that sometimes banks refuse to invest in. The BAS CEO further encouraged them to continue on the path that they are on because it is a good investment of money each year.

In addition, he believes support should not only come from persons like RDC, but from each other; lamenting that persons need to support each other and help them to get their fellow persons’ businesses “off the ground”.

Paul continued to note that when persons are looking for innovative and creative people, the persons who are those very things are sometimes overlooked for performers. He believes that they need to get to the point where these creative persons are awarded for their hard work yearly, as it will not only prove as an incentive for persons to continue working towards their goals and using their creative juices, but also to show them that their hard work does not go unnoticed.
