More to come

Barbadians can look out for more events in the future being staged at the Rock Hall Freedom Park in St. Thomas.

Dr. Sharon Johnson, Senior Cultural Policy Officer in the Division of Culture Prime Minister’s Office, said last Saturday’s event, ‘The Rock Hall Christmas Market’ was the first of many events to come.

“We are promoting it for its use so people can see what the site can do. So this is the first of many activities and we are going to reach out to the business community and promoters, to come and use this site.”

Speaking about the feedback last Saturday’s marketplace received, she said it was good. She said the event saw the participation of 17 vendors, these included residents of Rock Hall and the wider St. Thomas community.

During the Christmas Market, there were performances by individuals and groups as well as a visit by Santa Claus.

Dr. Johnson said the focus of the event was twofold. It was held to promote the “historic site which we opened in August this year. To promote it as a place for contemplation for business activity, for social gathering. It is a big site. It comprises chattel house shops; below there is a ravine that we are building into an amphitheatre where we hope to have open air concerts.”

It was also held to give locals and visitors a chance to purchase locally made goods which were created by small business people. These items could be given as gifts or be used by the buyer.
