Major projects for St. Andrew

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has given residents of St. Andrew the assurance that the bridge at Bruce Vale will be fixed.

Yesterday, she revealed that work will commence in two weeks' time with the establishment of a temporary bridge until a permanent structure is possible.

She also pointed to the construction of new roads across several communities in that parish – White Hill, Andromeda to Bath, Shorey Village, Mose Bottom among others, which are part of the road rehabilitation project.

The Prime Minister was at the time addressing the official re-opening ceremony of the St. Andrew Outpatient Clinic at Belleplaine, where she assured residents that the Barbados Labour Party Administration hasn’t turned a blind eye to their concerns. In fact, she declared that Member of Parliament George Payne has been a “fierce defender of the right to access to services" for the people of St Andrew.

“And this government has heard him over and over. And we will be judged by our actions and not our words”.

She went on to reveal that it has been agreed that the St Andrew Post Office, which has been closed temporary to facilitate repairs, should be renovated, as well as the St. Andrew Police Station.

“We are also committed to renovating the Police Station as a Police Outpost, recognising that the manner in which we deliver services within the police force will change by nature of the use of technology, and by the use of the different structures that the Force will utilise, including those that are focused on specialist services, and not only geographical distribution of the deployment of officers.”   

In addition, an expansion at Haggatts is on the cards, according to Prime Minister Mottley.

“I have met with the Ministry of Agriculture and we also are expanding the pond at Haggatts. And I have also determined that this notion that Haggatts is to look like a ‘pop down’ fruit farm has to stop. I remember as a child coming down here and fruit bountiful enough, the place taken care of with a sense of pride – we must return to that in St Andrew at Haggatts in order not just for the people in that parish to benefit, but the people of Barbados,” she said.
