Listen for your ‘calling’
Each of us has been called by the Lord.
This was the message in the sermon of Monsignor Vincent Harcourt Blackett at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Black Rock, St. Michael yesterday. He told the congregation that they must ask themselves as a parish what the Lord is asking them to be.
“What is this God inviting this parish to be? I want us to think seriously about that because I believe that God has given this parish a vocation. This parish, we as a people are called to something for God. But are we listening, are we responding to what the Lord is asking us as a parish?” asked Monsignor Blackett.
Hospitality is our calling
The pastor said that the church is called to show hospitality. He added that it was also important to change hostility to hospitality. Monsignor Blackett emphasised that this was the time to call forward the vision for the community. At Sunday’s service, special guests included the Brownies, Monsignor Blackett’s students at Codrington College, entertainer Kareen Clarke, make-up artist Adzil Stuart, as well as Clarke’s daughter Trinity and gospel singer, Paula Hinds. Some wore their African garb to celebrate Black History in the month of February.
