Micaela Pile, Co-chair of the Foundation presented the Hugh Wooding Law School student with the scholarship award – a monetary donation towards his studies during a short ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, yesterday.

The charity was established in 2014 in memory of Melanie Kristin Price who lost her battle with cancer that same year, with just one year to go to complete her studies at Hugh Wooding.

The Foundation seeks to grow its cadre of awardee, creating an educated group who will then be able to help the Foundation fulfil its stated aim of advancing education in Barbados through various means such as tutoring, mentoring and providing financial aid.

To date, the Foundation has given eight scholarships – three Barbadian first year students at Hugh Wooding worth $30 000; students of the Rock Christian Primary and Queen’s College to a total of $4 000; and a prize for the course intellectual Property to students in the Law faculty of The University of the West Indies (UWI).

In addition, the charity has assisted a student in the Faculty who was having difficulty paying her final year fees as well as given prizes to students of two Primary schools who performed excellently in their 11 Plus Examination.
