Students of the A Ganar Programme have been urged not to let mistakes deter them from their dreams.

“As you continue on your journey in life, you can be sure to make a few wrong turns, but I pray you can also recalculate your route to arrive at your goal,” stressed Education Lead Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Sabine Rieble-Aubourg.

Delivering the featured address at the graduation ceremony held at Hilton Resort on Friday night, she lauded the over 250 students for completing A Ganar, which is one of the initiatives under the island’s Skills for The Future Programme, being implemented in conjunction with the IDB.

She encouraged the graduands to stay curious and open, and consider themselves a project for continuous improvement.

“Continue to explore and learn new skills. Do not become complacent,” she emphasised.

“We live today in a world that changes at an ever-increasing pace and we are asked to learn new skills and to adapt to new circumstances. Therefore, it is important that you continue to develop your skills and knowledge so that you can find your place in this world.”

Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Hon. Ronald Jones, also explained to the 2016 graduation class that in life’s journey they will encounter challenges.

“There are going to be issues that confront you; problems that you will encounter. However it is how you handle every one of those challenges that will determine the path that you will take.

“You recalculate, find new opportunities for success – that is what life is about,” he pointed out.

“Don’t give up! Giving up is never an option. Don’t mind the pitfalls. Always try, always give it the best you can – now you are young.”

Minister Jones described the A Ganar programme as “excellent”, adding that it is a commitment by the government of Barbados and organisations such as Partners of America and Inter-American Development Bank.

“Persons who care about humanity; persons who care about young people,” he said. (TL)
