Kadooment fever at Ocean Two Resort

A mini-Kadooment swept the south coast and the vibes are still being felt going into Crop Over’s big weekend.

Staff and guests of Ocean Two Resort and Residences, at Dover in Christ Church, enjoyed their own version of Kadooment, next to the beach, in a warm-up for the big street party. It was the fourth
annual “Kadooment Fever” party at the luxury resort, which Operations Manager, Paul Collymore, said was created to give guests a “Crop Over experience” and expose them to activities that make-up the island’s annual summer festival.

For close to four hours last Wednesday, visitors, Barbadian supporters and staff, crowded the pool deck and the beach, singing and dancing to popular calypso hits, while also being entertained by traditional Bajan characters, such as, “Mother Sally” and a tuk-band, internationally recognised fire-eater Cassius Clay and some of the island’s top calypsonians. In between, there was also loads of fun and laughter as several guests showed their skills in keen limbo, conch-shell blowing and dance competitions, which added to the evening’s entertainment.

Jim Murty, an Irish visitor who was brave enough to challenge three females in a “Mother Sally” dancing competition, said the Kadooment party was awesome.

American, Shaheed Peters, who took on seven other competitors and won the conch-shell blowing contest, also said it was a thrilling experience on his first trip to the island.

The event was hosted by Ocean Two’s “Employee Of The Year”, Shaquille Haynes, and amidst the fun and revelry, staff and guests enjoyed an evening of full Barbadian fare, which also included Bajan dishes and local beverages, such as coconut water, rum, mauby and sno-cones .

Popular calypsonians – Red Plastic Bag, HypaSounds and Grynner – with back to back performances – brought the curtain down on the event with an array of hits that had the audience dancing and singing.
While RPB and HypaSound heated the party with major hits – including “Something Is Happening” and “Sugar Rush” - the maestro Grynner fittingly closed out the show with his popular 2016 number “Take Me Down The Road”.

“We are always seeking ways to enhance the Ocean Two experience for guests and having a Kadooment Party in the middle of the Crop Over season is something they look forward to,” said Collymore.

After the party, locals and resort guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet dinner on the beach, prepared by Chef Michael Harrison and his team.
