JCI Barbados wins big

JCI Barbados continues to reign as the Most Outstanding Local Organisation in the West Indies. On October 15, the local chapter was awarded the prestigious title along with several others during the closing ceremony of the 56th JCI West Indies National Convention which was held at the Barbados Beach Club, Maxwell, Christ Church.

In addition to receiving the Most Outstanding Local Organisation in the West Indies award, the youth organisation won Best Omoiyari Program (Peace is Possible Campaign), Best Local Personal Skill Development Program (Project Mission Empowerment), Best Local Growth and Development Program (Public Speaking Series) Most Outstanding New Member (Ms. Shakira Eversley), Most Outstanding Member (Mr. Michael Mayers) and the 100% Efficiency Award to name a few.  Also, JCI Barbados had additional cause to celebrate with the election of the Immediate Past President, JCI Barbados, Mr. Khaleid Holder as the 2017 JCI West Indies Vice President.

The convention gave JCI Barbados an opportunity to work closely with members of  JCI Antigua, JCI Port of Spain (Trinidad) and JCI Tobago, JCI Guyana, JCI St Vincent, JCI Grenada, JCI Hopewell (Jamaica) and French West Indies.

During the convention, the youth organisations were able to execute two community service projects.  They made a donation of two Pride of Barbados trees, school supplies as well as revamped a new school sign and JCI Barbados Colouratic: Colour Fun Run/Walk which saw over 100 walkers and runners bringing awareness to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Barbados.

During the closing ceremony, President of JCI, Barbados, Charlene Corbin said that she was proud of all her members and the organisation for all their accomplishments, and to all members (past and present), senators and sponsors including Massy United Insurance for making this possible.

“To win 9 awards at this year’s convention is testament to those who have contributed to strategically building (of) this noble organization. I have never been so proud to call myself a Jaycee,” said Ms. Corbin.

For JCI Barbados, the work continues as it hosts the 18th Annual Special Day for Special Children on October 22nd at Ilaro Court and some members will also be attending the JCI World Congress held this year in Quebec City, Canada.
