Marketing Manager with Fortress Fund Managers Limited, Podcast Creator and Host, Kim Howard.

Investment education important

Fortress Fund Managers has been pushing the investment education of the general public and their social media platforms are working to ensure that potential and existing investors have a comfortable and clear avenue to knowledge regarding the investment world.

This was communicated by Marketing Manager, Podcast Creator and Host Kim Howard, earlier this week, as she expressed her passion about helping the general public become educated about investment and the potential gains which could be earned. Howard acknowledged that every individual would not be able to easily access or navigate the Fortress website. As a result, the company worked hard to make information of what it offers and also financial guidance available on their social media platforms.

“We are not a financial advising body but I personally believe that without that education and that awareness, it hampers investors. So people who may be well poised to invest, or who may be interested and unsure, I think that what we communicate to them should help them get past that particular hurdle,” Howard said.

The marketing manager also highlighted the annual financial forum which has been affected by COVID-19 over the last two years and the podcast of the company as being other means by which Fortress sought to educate the public. However Howard stated that the podcast had at least twenty-five past episodes available on the website and on most podcast apps available locally which people could listen to and be enlightened.

“There are podcast episodes on any podcast app that you listen to where we talk to different people from Barbados and elsewhere about different financial matters to help share knowledge with people about finance and investing,” said the manager.

Howard stated that Fortress would continue to make strides in education of the public because a knowledgeable investor was a good investor.

“When people who know, see what happened last year in March where the market tanked, they do not panic, they do not freak out because that is the time to buy. Which is something that I had to learn over the years that I have been here which is something I would like people to understand. Things do go down, and they will go back up, that is part of coming around,” explained Howard.

Roger Cave, Investment Director, Fortress Fund Managers also commented that it was important for the media to play their part, as the daily reports on financial markets or remarks given by financial companies was key to educating the people on what was important regarding investment. He stated that Fortress would continue to do more but also mentioned the need for it to be taught in the schools of Barbados as part of the overall education of the people.

“We all wish that it could be done in the formal education system and I think this is an area where there is a gap in investment tuition. Yes there is UWI and so on where it is well covered but at the school level I do not think there is enough for sure,” said Cave. (AS)
