Increasing membership a goal for Rotary Club of Barbados South’s new president

Growing membership and enhancing public relations are top priorities of the newly installed president of the Rotary Club of Barbados South.

President, Vivian-Anne Gittens stated she will be placing greater emphasis on these areas in addition to training and developing the Club’s members. She will also be remaining committed to “continuing to build a strong and vibrant Club”.

“To do even more we need even more members while maintaining Rotary’s core values of service, leadership, integrity, diversity and fellowship. The thrust is to expand membership by attracting those persons who are passionate about doing good in the world through their exemplary service to humanity.”

She added, “the role of public relations, like membership, will erase the highest problems within the Club. Specific emphasis will be placed on social media to promote public awareness of the Club’s activities and its main projects in the community led at the director’s level in our Club.”
Gittens was installed as head during Friday night’s 33rd Installation of Officers at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa. Members of the Club’s Board of Directors for 2018-2019 were additionally installed.

Gittens further said that during her time as President she will be continuing those projects which have been successful in the past and where possible expansions will be made. These include the Classroom to Boardroom Project, the Model United Nations Project, the Christmas Hamper Project, the Back-To-School Project and the feeding the needy and Meals on Wheel Programme.

She additionally told the gathering, which included Patron and Chief Justice of Barbados, Sir Marston Gibson, of her plans to continue to assist Rotarians in Dominica.

“During my year, we wish to look outside our immediate community and look at international service as an extension of our Rotary service and fellowship. To this end having raised funds for Dominica hurricane relief, we wish to get more involved by visiting the members of our sister club in Dominica. We wish to see and hear first-hand how we can assist fellow Rotarians in proving further relief for that country and to affect that assistance to the extent we can physically and financially in building friendships and fellowship between our clubs.”
