Great response!

Public’s reaction to Christmas Kettle Appeal encouraging

There should be a clearer picture of the progress of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Appeal later today, however Community Relations Director with that organisation, Major Denzil Walcott, says that the appeal has been receiving a positive response from members of the public.

“The response to the Kettle [Appeal] has been very good so far. We cannot give you specific amounts yet … but so far the response from the Barbadian public
has been very good,” he said on Friday about the initiative, which commenced on November 10.

Walcott further explained that the funds obtained through the Appeal are used to run the Salvation Army’s programmes and to assist with providing food hampers to needy individuals.

“Last year, the Salvation Army provided 4 000 families with food hampers. A hamper can last a family for two weeks. We put in all the basic items and some other things and so, in order to complete that project again this year, we need to collect money through our Kettle Appeal. It is what we do every year.”

On Friday, staff at Scotiabank’s Broad Street branch made their contributions to the Kettle Appeal. Marketing Manager, Keisha Humphrey, explained that “Scotiabank is the sponsor of the Christmas Kettle and Letter Appeal, so today’s initiative is really to help bolster their efforts in meeting their eight hundred thousand dollar target.”

Meanwhile, Manager – Personal Banking with Scotiabank, Broad Street stated that kettles have been placed at each of the bank’s six locations where members of the public can made their contribution.

“We are really happy to be a part of this promotion. Obviously, we continue to support initiative of the Salvation Army and really what we would have is a kettle it would be located in all of our branches and of course, we encourage our staff to provide their support. It is our way of giving back to the community.” (MG)
