Focus on health and wellness at Ministry of Education

Health and wellness came in to focus as the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational  Training hosted a Health Fair on the grounds of its Constitution Road, St. Michael Headquarters, recently.

Permanent Secretary Janet Phillips, who had the honour of cutting the ribbon to declare the Health Fair officially open, encouraged those gathered to take advantage of the healthy offerings and to ensure that even in the midst of their hectic schedules, they make a concerted effort to eat properly, stay hydrated, get in some exercise and generally look after themselves.

“I believe in health. I am a Seventh Day Adventist and we eat very healthily. So the way we cook, the way we prepare our stuff, there’s a very healthy way we do it. We eat lots of vegetables, we drink a lot of water, and we like to exercise. So I am glad to preside this morning over this function, which promotes health and wellness,” Phillips remarked.

“We know that the health of Barbados is the wealth of the nation and so we are happy to welcome all who are participating, whether it is [to provide] manicures, pedicures, massages, whether it is for exercise or even those companies that have come among us to show us samples, to take our blood pressure, to make sure that in the midst of all the hustleand bustle of work, we are still healthy,” she added.

She meanwhile encouraged staff present to partake of the nutritious food and beverages available at various booths and to get their various health checks such as blood pressure and blood sugar testing carried out.

The Permanent Secretary then made a number of presentations to representatives of companies which threw their support behind the Health Fair.
