Flow delivers water relief to rural communities

Much needed relief was delivered over the weekend to households in water-starved districts and neighbourhoods across the parishes of St Lucy and St Peter.

Leading telecoms provider Flow joined forces with the Barbados Water Authority and the Barbados Defence Force to deliver several truckloads of free bottled water which the company donated as part of a wider relief effort.

Areas covered included Date Tree Hill in St. Lucy and Boscobelle in St. Peter, with the initiative touching just over 800 households.

“In keeping with our mission of ‘Connecting Communities, Transforming Lives’, the company took the decision to purchase more than $10,000 worth of bottled water to provide residents with some measure of immediate relief,” said Marilyn Sealy, Senior Manager, Communications, Flow.

“Flow is proud to be part of the Barbadian fabric and we are also proud to be able to offer this kind of support to the districts hardest hit by the recent water outages. Likewise, we also thank the Barbados Defence Force and the Barbados Water Authority for working with us to deliver relief to those communities most in need.”

The community drive over the weekend follows a recent shipment of bottled water from Flow Barbados to the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines who are still dealing with the negative effects of the volcanic eruptions at La Soufrière and the subsequent ash fall.

To date, the company’s regional business units have shipped more than 30,000 litres of water, as well as 400 beds and linens to help meet the demand in local shelters.
