Embrace technology

Technology is the way forward when it comes to advancing the educational system in this island.

This is according to Barbados Community College (BCC) student, Krystal Hoyte, who was one of the participants at the Activate Talk discussion, held recently at the UN House.

Therefore, it is vital that technology be implemented and integrated into the teaching curriculum of this island, she said.

“Half of the skills that are taught in Maths, I probably wouldn’t use anyway, but what I would use...is technology. In today’s fast-changing world, there is a new app every
day ...There is no doubt that technology has its place. Therefore, it is imperative that we make room within the classroom for technology.”

Hoyte stated that utilising the technology also assists in catering to the different learning styles of students.

“Technology in the classroom means that we embrace more diverse teaching styles Therefore we connect and engage youth more, making education relevant and relatable. Integrating technology into a classroom means that we prepare our students for the real world.

“In this technological age where it has become more and more imperative to be tech savvy, this is important. Technology allows for easy connection and easy communication and that is not all. Technology also allows for education to be affordable. E-books are undoubtedly cheaper than text books, which means that I get to spend less and get more because downloading the apps are a lot easier as well,” she added. (PJT)
