DLP getting ready

THE wheels have already been set in motion and the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) has begun the process of picking candidates to represent its Party in constituencies across the island.

This was confirmed by DLP President, Verla De Peiza, as she spoke to The Barbados Advocate on Tuesday night at the DLP’s Old Year’s Night Dance at the George Street Auditorium. She however did not reveal who the candidates will be.
“We do candidate selection different from the Barbados Labour Party.

So believe it or not, our candidate selection is ongoing. Several of the branches have already completed their phase and early in next year [in 2020], the executives and general councils will work on those branches that have already completed their phase of candidate selection.”

She added, “We don’t do it with all the fanfare at that stage, but the persons will be introduced to the community and introduced to the country in short order. I don’t want to put a time frame on it, because there are some that are sensitive.”

De Peiza, who during the last general election contested the Christ Church West seat, said the candidates who have been selected will be out and about in constituencies as early as this month.

“Certainly, our people will be out there working come January and those that are completed at the shortest possible time; we will make the announcements in the communities that they are attached to and to the nation.”
