Cub Scouts Founder’s Church Service celebrates ‘Scouting Heroes’

Cub Scouts in Barbados were told they must remain disciplined, respect and help others, and fulfil the duty of God to maintain a heroic posture.

These were the words of Reverend Michael Holford who gave his sermon during the 105th anniversary of the Barbados Boys Scouts Association Founder’s Day Service at the Abundant Life Assembly.

The Reverend told the congregation that people are watching the scouts and saying that they want to be like them.

Taking inspiration from the theme of the Sunday service, “Celebrating their Scouting Heroes”, Reverend Holford reminded the Scouts that as they go through the rigours of discipline and perform various tasks to earn badges for their sashes, all of this is part of the discipline required to be great men of Barbados.

The Scouts who had paraded from the National Stadium earlier in the afternoon came from the Northern, Southern and Bridgetown District Scout Councils.

During the service, Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson presented the “PricewaterhouseCoopers Outstanding Troop 2016” award to Bay Scouts Troop. Other awardees were Zachary Hoyte for Scout of the Year 2016, Johnovan F. A. King and Darien Prescod were Barbados Venture Gold awardees. The Queen’s Scout Award went to Tashaun Callender of Harrison’s College, Bridgetown District Unit. The highest Scout award and the Chief Scout Awards were presented to Donte Blunt, Joshua Brathwaite, Christian Clarke, Zachary Hoyte, Mario King, Topaz Lafarque, Johnathan Peter and Hadley Roach.
