Clarke to be presented with BLP top award

This Friday, former MP for St George North Gline Clarke will be presented with the Grantley Adams Award, as announced by Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley.

Clarke, who has been campaigning with Toni Moore, the Barbados Labour Party candidate for the upcoming St George North by-election, was saluted by Mottley during the BLP Public Meeting in Market Hill, St George on Sunday evening. The prime minister stated that Clarke represented the true meaning of the award and for that he would receive the highest award of the BLP.

“He (Clarke) embodies what that award is about in terms of commitment, not just to party but to country and constituency.” said the prime minister.

Mottley explained that she wanted to salute him publicly in front of the people of St George North, calling districts such as Belair, Bridge Cot and St Augustine. She highlighted that she had been in public life for approximately 31 years, similarly to Clarke and now she watched as he participated in the Toni Moore by-election campaign, every single day, walking with candidate Toni Moore and was on each platform speaking for Moore.

“I have been around all of the by-elections, I have been around general elections, I have seen men and women transition but I have never seen the commitment to cause, constituency, to party and to the successor that I have seen by Gline Clarke in this campaign,” said Mottley.

The leader of the BLP said that she felt the need to make the announcement in the constituency, as the people of St George North were also recipients of the award through Clarke.

“In him you saw a man who was committed to you and you saw a man who never pretended to be God,” said Mottley. (AS)
