Chinese Embassy bids farewell to Counsellor Songhua

On Monday night, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Barbados bid farewell to its Political Counsellor Zhu Songhua.

Songhua, who served in Barbados for over three years, is being relocated to Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was showered with praise by his colleagues, including Her Excellency Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, as she lauded his work in the development of bilateral relations between China and Barbados and wished him every success on his new journey.

During the reception held the Embassy’s Rockley Christ Church headquarters, the Ambassador also took the opportunity to introduce Songhua’s successor Zou Xi and his wife Wang Luo Xi to top diplomats, senior government officials and business executives.

She described him as young, dynamic and very experienced. Ambassador Wang Ke highlighted that Xi worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China for almost 20 years and at the Chinese Consulate in New York. “I believe he can very quickly get into his role and I do hope that everyone here will render support and assistance.”

An emotional Songhua admitted that he is finding it hard to say goodbye to his friends and colleagues on the island. “Working in Barbados was something I never thought of before coming here three years ago. But, now it is fair for me to say that Barbados is one of the best overseas postings. Working and living in Barbados was an amazing and joyful life experience which I will treasure forever,” he expressed, also thanking the Ambassador for her support, guidance and understanding throughout his tenure.

“My successor Zou Xi is young, but an experienced diplomat, who I am confident will work relentlessly with Ambassador Wang Ke, Embassy colleagues and Barbadian friends in the efforts to make bilateral cooperation a greater success.” (TL)
