Children enjoy Lions Clubs’ Fun Day at Ilaro Court

Ilaro Court was a hive of activity as hundreds of children gathered for the Lions Clubs of Barbados Zone 3A annual Christmas Fair last Saturday evening.

The children were treated to an evening of laughter, food and fun, as there were jumping tents available, face painting, delicious food, karaoke, horseback riding and plenty of
other games for them to indulge in.

Speaking with The Barbados Advocate during the fair was the Chairman of the Organising Committee for Christmas with the Lions, Lion Maureen Graham, who revealed that all of the Lions Clubs in Barbados were present to ensure the children had a great time.

“The children come out and have a wonderful time; they play games and eat lots of food. This year its themed ‘Howdy Christmas with the Lions’, which is why we are dressed up as cowboys and we also have horses here to treat the children to horseback rides,” she said.

“Later, we have a special surprise, as Santa will come and distribute presents to all the children present,” she added.

Graham noted that they have been hosting the fair for five years and their intention was to bring children from across Barbados to enjoy themselves on the grounds of Ilaro Court.

She revealed that the fair was free of charge to the children and noted that this would not have been possible without the help of corporate Barbados, who she sincerely thanked, as they were able to help them accomplish the successful fairs since inception.

“What motivates me, and by extension the entire movement, is the fact that our motto is ‘We Serve’ and when we see the reaction of the children here this evening, we know that we are serving them. Christmas is a time for children and they really do enjoy themselves, and that is the key to us coming back every year,” she said.

“I must say that it’s getting harder every year because sponsorship is dwindling, but whatever we have, we try to make the best of it. Our motive is to make sure that the children have a wonderful time when they come out,” she added.
