From left singers, Carlyn Leacock, Jude Clarke, organising committee member, Zimronn Andrews discuss the upcoming show ‘Vintage Gospel: Remember when…’ which is scheduled to take place on November 9. Musical director, Billboard Murrell, who was also present for the press conference (but not photographed), noted that James Leacock was unavailable for the concert this year.

Carlyn Leacock to perform at her first Vintage Gospel Concert

For years, singer Carlyn Leacock has been recognised as a well-known artiste in the local music industry but on Saturday November 9 at “Vintage Gospel Concert: Remember when…”, she will sing at her first gospel concert.

This was revealed by the entertainer at the press conference of the annual event at the Kingdom Culture International Building, Fontabelle, St. Michael on Thursday.

Leacock said that 22-23 years ago she rededicated her life to Christ in New York. She added that she was searching for a church to attend and admitted that she was tired of travelling and wanted to “settle down a bit”. Her brother, James is the person who called her one day and invited her to church. She attended church in Barbados and has been doing so for the past 20 years.
“This is what I wanted. When you have a need, you grow up with it, you know what it is like and you know what it feels like, and you feel for it again... you want it. It is something you have been missing,” said Leacock.

Followed a different career
She confessed that she never wanted to be a singer but rather a nurse. Yet, she indicated that the music industry was thrusted upon her because she knew about it. Leacock promised that the audience can expect to see the performer, “Carlyn Leacock” and as to the songs she will be performing, Barbadian fans were told they will have to “just wait and see”.

Earlier, musical director, Billboard Murrell noted that this year, James Leacock was unavailable and his sister, Carlyn Leacock came on board to join the list of performers. As with the year before, this concert will pay tribute in song to the late
local gospel singer, Joseph Niles.Organising Committee member of the event, Zimronn Andrews said that in the Barbadian society, where there is an age of decline in both Christian and moral values, the committee thought it was fitting to host an event that a mature age group can appreciate.

“At this event, we want to bring that joy to them, we want to bring that excitement to them and give them a taste of God and rekindle those Christian values...,” said Andrews.

The lineup for this year’s edition of Vintage Gospel includes Jude Clarke, Sister Marshall, Chairon Holder, Ricky Broomes and Marvia Providence. Vintage Gospel is a nonprofit event hosted by the Kingdom Culture International (KCI). The event will be held at the MERC New Testament Church of God, River Road, St. Michael starting at 6 pm.

Tickets are available at CS Pharmacy, Bridgetown, Wigs Plus Beauty, Sky Mall and A&B Music Supplies, Sheraton Mall for $30.
