Canadian High Commission honours long-standing Barbadian staff

THE High Commission of Canada has paid tribute to locally engaged staff, who have contributed to the special relationship between Canada and Barbados.

Lenora Molyneaux, Curtis Johnson, Merryann Carrington, Beverley Clarke, Arlene Graham, Rosalyn Wiltshire and Edson Garnes have all dedicated more than 25 years each to the High Commission.

Yesterday, they were honoured during the Canada-Barbados 50 years of Diplomatic Relations celebrations ceremony.

“Together, they represent almost 200 years of service to Canada, and we are proud of them and grateful for their work,” expressed Canadian High Commissioner, Richard Hanley.

“Many have worked for a significant part of the relationship. Several have worked 35 years, and one who has worked 43 years – almost the entire time Canada and Barbados have enjoyed diplomatic ties. I am happy to honour them.”

Senator, the Hon. Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, said she is pleased at the expression of friendship and co-operation that exist between Barbados and Canada.

Congratulating the honourees, she urged them to continue to strive for excellence, professionalism, and productivity in all that they do.

“Your recognition is proof that you have been doing so. And, of course, let us all continue to live up to our motto: ‘Pride and Industry,’” she stressed.

“I hope that you will see the presence of the Broken Trident on the premises of the High Commission as motivation for keeping Barbados and Barbados’ flag flying high, as you continue to give service to your employer, as we continue to strengthen our diplomatic tides.”

“It heartens me to know that we have nationals of Barbados within the High Commission who make daily efforts to nurture and sustain this long-standing relationship. Of course, my Ministry will continue to engage and facilitate the High Commission as part of its daily task,” Senator McClean assured. (TL)
