Campers receive valuable road safety tips

CAMPERS at Wee Care Nursery were given a wealth of information yesterday by members of the Barbados Road Safety Association.

President Sharmaine Roland-Bowen along with Public Relations Officer Richard Cox took the message to the four to five year old group, which according to the president was a strategic move.

“We try to get the message to all groups, whether large or small, but the message is clear: We need to target children from an early age, to get that message all the way up to adulthood. A young person is a good person to start with so they can have that information as a foundation in their minds so that as they get older and progress through different stages of road use, they will be able to act correctly and appropriately and know the dangers.”

She explained that it is also hoped that children will spread the message to their siblings and other children about the importance of road safety.

The team, which included executive member Carson Lee also distributed several badges, bookmarks and flyers to the appreciative group, on pedestrian, bicycle and passenger safety.

“At this time of year there are a number of summer camps. You just need to contact us and we will be happy to visit your summer camp and encourage children, educate them, so that they can be safe,” Roland-Bowen encouraged. (JH)
