BWA: Imported water safe

THE Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is assuring members of the public that all drinking water coming into the island is subject to stringent testing.

Yesterday, the BWA sought to allay any concerns about the water which the country is purchasing from neighbouring countries to assist with recent heightened water woes in several rural communities.

Over the weekend, Barbados started to receive the imported water.

“The Prime Minister indicated in her recent address to the nation that Barbados was going to receive assistance with water from fellow CARICOM nations. Several cruise liners have also offered Barbados potable water in appreciation of the generosity the Government and people of Barbados have shown to them over the years,” according to the BWA’s statement.

“All drinking water coming into the island is subject to stringent testing by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Barbados Water Authority.

“This was the case with water received recently at the Barbados Port. The Barbados Water Authority would not compromise on the quality of water meant for distribution on island in any way,” the BWA said.
