BVHS, Living Water Community benefit from Faces Speak initiative

TWO charitable organisations – the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society (BVHS) and the Living Water Community – have benefited from a touching social media campaign entitled “Faces Speak”, which was launched last year to address the dire plight of the homeless and those who meet unfortunate circumstances.

The Rotary Club of Barbados has been working over the past nine months, on a number of challenges aimed at meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in Barbadian communities.

One of these challenges saw Rotarian Nicholas Waithe, from the Rotary Club of Barbados, going homeless for 24 hours in the island’s capital of Bridgetown, from November 21-22, 2015, as part of a social media campaign entitled “Faces Speak”, which was designed to raise awareness of the homeless and poor in our society.

According to Waithe, who spoke ahead of the presentation of Bds$5 000 each to the two local charities, the campaign sought to encourage persons to assist in any way they could to support the organisations and charities right here in Barbados, that work tirelessly around the clock, 365 days a year, to care for and support persons living in unfortunate circumstances. As such, a total of Bds$10 000 was raised.

Representatives of the two local charities were on hand yesterday to receive their cheques, presented at the Rotary Club’s Luncheon Meeting, held at the Hilton Hotel.

Representing the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society (BVHS) was Founder and President, Kemar Saffrey; and Vice Chairman of the Board, Imran Richards. Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Living Water Community was Covenant Member, Gina Cox and Missionary, Gregory Radjiman. The cheques were presented by Rotary Club of Barbados President, Jedder Robinson. (RSM)
