BRSA seeking more members

The Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA) stands in need of more members to spread the word about road safety matters.

Richard Cox, Public Relations Officer of the BRSA, acknowledged the above recently as he made a public appeal for persons to sign up with the Association if they are interested in helping the organisation carry out its advocacy work.

“The more persons we have in the Association the better for us, because the more we can get done. Remember that we receive no funds from anywhere, anymore. We used to see a small sum from government, but this has stopped for a while now; in fact, as of last year,” he revealed.

BRSA President Sharmane Roland-Bowen meanwhile noted that the funds from government were stopped when the Association moved last year to place flags to mark areas in the road where potholes were located, as a safety measure. This drew strong criticism from the Ministry of Transport and Works.

Cox stressed that the BRSA now has to go about raising funds on its own, and additional members would also be able to help in this area.

“We have to raise most of our funds by begging alms outside of supermarkets and so on. So the more persons we have in the organisations, the more we should be able to raise funds to get on with the work that we have to do,” he stressed. (RSM)
