Members of the party were happy with the election of John King as the party’s representative for St. Philip West.

BLP chooses John King for St. Philip West

Just after Don Callender withdrew from the candidate nominee race for the constituency of St. Philip West, Social Worker and Calypsonian John King was unanimously elected for the spot.

Being endorsed by Barbados Labour Party (BLP) stalwart, Carl Springer, John King took to the microphone to thank his supporters, the party and Callender who has pledged to support him 100%.

However, his first order of business was to implore those present to get to know him. Admitting that many of them only know the calypsonian, King noted that there was much more he had to offer. Disclosing that his parents brought him from England for a better life, King stated that Barbados gave him the opportunities to be anything he wanted to be and so, it is time he gave back. In order to do so, he emphasized that he needs the support of the constituents in removing current MP for the area, Hon. Dr. David Estwick.

King went on to say that the country is under pressure; and the time has come where enough is enough. In his view, the Government is taking the country backward and in the same way that previous Prime Minister Owen Arthur had to clean up the mess of the DLP, so will Mottley and her administration have to clean up again.

Echoing his sentiments was Kerry Symmonds, MP for St. James Central, who was disgusted by the Prime Minister’s recent comments pertaining to the fact that the country needed to have a “Good Friday”. Like the Prime Minister, Symmonds is sure that Easter Morning will come but where they differ is that his Easter Sunday will be when the Mia-led administration takes over the Government in Symmonds’ view.

Therefore, he said that the BLP is here to set things right and to do so, an example needed to be made of Dr. David Estwick,  Symmonds added.

Added to that, bringing greetings from Christ Church was Ralph Thorne who congratulated John King on his nomination and encouraged his comrades to hold fast to the task.
