UWI honours outstanding students

On Thursday night, the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, honoured the excellence and hard work of those outstanding students among the 2018 graduating class.

Professor Eudine Barriteau, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Cave Hill Campus expressed that it was with great pride that the Cave Hill Campus celebrated the scholarly excellence of the students.

These students would have worked hard throughout their academic lives at the university and achieved First Class Honours. Barriteau highlighted that this was not an easy feat, and as such, believed it important to let these students know that they recognised their hard work.

She stated that the ceremony served more than just acknowledging their academic prowess at the Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD level as it was a “public recognition of the service to which you are now called.”

“The journey has been long and hard for many of you, but you have persevered, and you have overcome. You are all aware that excellence is not a destination, but a continuous journey,” she said.

“As we salute your own outstanding achievement this evening, I urge you to go forth and help spread the word that at the Cave Hill Campus, the best is yet to come.”

She encouraged the graduating class to go forward as proud UWI alumni and to be mindful of those who now follow in their footsteps.

Barriteau confidently stated that she believed the graduands will look back on fond memories of their years at Cave Hill and assured them that they were working at making the Campus an even more special place for the generations to come.

The Principal highlighted that one such way they were doing this was by going through with their plan to build the Cave Hill Campus as a “Smart Campus” for the 21st century.

She revealed that they planned to intensify their efforts to become a major participant in the transformative environment of artificial intelligence. Through doing this, Barriteau explained that this would help to meet the growing global demand for tech-employees
to participate in the fintech, blockchain and other revolutionary technologies. (CLF)
