MARCHING WITH PRIDE! Precision, dedication and commitment were the best words to describe the scene yesterday at St. Paul’s Anglican Church as members of the Barbados Legion marched with pride past Governor General, Sir Elliott Belgrave and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Patrick Todd. The group of ex-servicemen and women, in fine form, was a stark reminder of the contribution which they bravely made to the world’s safety during their service.

Barbados Legion celebrates 42nd anniversary

In celebration of yet another anniversary, The Barbados Legion marked its 42nd milestone with a church service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. However, this time they had in their midst the Governor General of Barbados, His Excellency, Sir Elliott Belgrave.

While in celebratory spirits, the Legion was given a few reminders from the Reverend of the church, Rev. Erma Ambrose. Speaking from Luke Chapter 10, verses 1-25, Rev. Ambrose told the group and the congregation at large that it is important to spread love, even when our neighbours look different from ourselves. Relating to the parable told in the Chapter, Rev. Ambrose stated that like the Samaritan who helped the Jew who was beaten and left half dead, they ought to act in the same way as Jesus mandates it.

Moreover, the Reverend told them that Faith in Christ is also important for it is only through it that beliefs are turned into actions which eventually yield results. To this, she said, a Christian has to be doubly equipped as situations may come which try to shake these beliefs. Thirdly, Rev. Ambrose asked that the congregation give selfless service; much like the members of the Barbados Legion would have done and continues to do through their charitable work because this is the way of Christ.

She noted that the Christian’s hope is that God’s way is the best way and it is far better to base one’s life on God than to base one’s life on self. Bringing exactly what she means into focus, Rev. Ambrose explained that God is patient, compassionate, merciful and loving and to become his followers, it is imperative that one lives in a similar way.

Taking note of the growing societal ills, Rev Ambrose assured that while they are concerning all is not lost as long as all brothers and sisters in Christ continue to speak a language of love.
