Barbados Fire Service’s first Chaplain is Rev. Adrian Odle

Sunday, October 13 was a historic day for the officers of the Barbados Fire Service (BFS), who witnessed the installation of their first Chaplain, Reverend Adrian Odle.

At the 64th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service, Rev. Odle, who is currently the Reverend of the Bethel Methodist Church, expressed his desire as a man of God to exercise a ministry of pastoral care to the BFS officers.

Under the theme, “Facing the Challenges in Our Community”, the new BFS chaplain said that there will never be a life without a challenge. He added that challenges will be personal, spiritual or financial, but they are not meant to defeat us but help us to become stronger.

“Through the experience of that challenge, we have seen how God has worked and above all we have come through the experience with flying colours,” said Rev. Odle.

Noting that sometimes challenges will not come from the community, Rev. Odle said that the fire officers will face opposition, criticism and they should stand up to their challenges. He also encouraged the fire officers to pray, especially when they go out on their job daily. He also pointed out that all of us should face our challenges in the power and the strength of Almighty God.

Reverend Odle is an ordained Methodist minister for the past 28 years. He received his training at United Theological College of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica with a diploma in Ministerial Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology (UWI). Reverend Odle has served in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. His training has helped him to support people in areas of trauma, anxiety, stress and mental disorders.
