Barbadian designer featured in Vogue launches brand

Shanice Taylor, the local designer whose work was worn by Barbadian-born international pop star, Rihanna, and who was subsequently featured by Vogue Magazine, has launched her self-titled brand.

Gifted to Rihanna by best friend Melissa, Taylor’s crochet piece has attracted international attention and prompted a surge in orders from those seeking to own one of her designs.

Her story of strength, resilience, and triumph continues to captivate many and the Westbury native has sought to weave these themes under her new brand, Shanice Taylor.

Humbled by her meteoric rise, Taylor expressed her desire “to create pieces that inspire those who wear them to confidently express themselves”. She indicated to The Barbados Advocate that she will host a fashion show in the future.

St. Michael West parliamentary representative, Christopher Gibbs hopes that Shanice Taylor’s story will motivate others and views her achievement as evidence of the rich talent that exists in communities across Barbados.

Gibbs, who facilitated the partnership between Taylor and brand development company, G&A Communications Inc (G&A), is confident about the label’s future. He said, “Partnerships are integral to success, and I felt it critical to match the goals of Taylor with the expertise and creativity of a top brand shop like G&A Communications Inc. Already they have created a stunning visual brand together.”

CEO & Chief Brand Strategist with G&A Communications Inc, Devin Griffith, spoke to the process of the collaboration stating, “Transmutable Innovation©, G&A’s unique process methodology was leveraged to craft the Shanice Taylor brand. So it was important for us to get to know Ms Taylor and understand her motivations and what makes her tick - before we even put pencil to paper we had long talks with her to understand her unique story.” He further remarked, “The key to a successful brand is authenticity and purpose, so establishing Shanice’s brand rubric was imperative for us.”
