BAFOP gives to needy students at Westbury Primary

THE Barbados Association of Future Office Professionals (BAFOP), as part of its outreach initiative, decided this year to present one of the primary schools with educational materials, which will go towards less fortunate students attending that school.

Due to its catchment area, the Westbury Primary School was selected to be the first school to benefit from this initiative.

President of BAFOP, Miss Shaneal Bynoe, shared that the items in the two baskets included exercise books, art pads, colouring books, pencils, erasers, pens, markers, pencil crayons, wax crayons, sharpeners, rulers, pencil cases and a school bag. She noted that BAFOP generally brings cheer to a children’s home and one of the district hospitals at Christmas, but this year decided to engage in an additional outreach project.

Mrs. Sandra Griffith-Carrington, Chairperson of the Barbados Association of Office Professionals (BAOP) with responsibility for BAFOP, added that the month of November was chosen for this presentation for two main reasons. First, it is the month of Independence and BAFOP wanted to celebrate Barbados’ 50th year in a meaningful way and no better way than to bring cheer to those less fortunate. Secondly, since most other organisations would normally have donated for back-to-school in September, by now that stock would have been almost depleted.

Principal of the school, Ms. Rosalind Gittens, in concurring with Mrs. Griffith-Carrington, stated that indeed the presentation was very timely and thanked and commended BAFOP for their outreach initiative. She expressed hope that this would be the beginning of a long relationship with the school.

Headboy, Huzayfa Memi and Headgirl, Diara Nurse, were delighted to accept the presentations on behalf of their school. They too expressed their thanks and appreciation.

BAOP President, Mrs. Clovine Leslie, remarked that BAOP and BAFOP were delighted to offer assistance and that she was extremely heartened by the generous response by both associations. She added that both associations firmly believe in giving back to the communities, noting that other institutions and groups have been beneficiaries over the years.

The BAFOP is an association geared towards business-oriented persons, both male and female between the ages of 15 and 25, offering a social and business environment to members.

The Association meets every fourth Saturday at Goddard Training Centre. Its parent body, the BAOP, supported this initiative and members from both associations donated to this worthy cause.
