Arrests made regarding theft of produce

Police have made a breakthrough into a spate of crop thefts; Ian Emmerson Bennett 41 years of Cliff, St. John has been formally charged with the offences of: Theft of 20 rods of sweet potatoes between the April 5 and 21, 2015.

Theft of 25 pounds of sweet potatoes on April 22, 2015. Theft of stolen 20 rods of sweet potatoes sometime between April 23 and 24, 2015. Theft of six rods of sweet potatoes sometime between September 2 and 3, 2015.

Theft of 20 rods of sweet potatoes on October 23, 2015. Police have formally arrested and charged Seymour DaCosta Inniss 52 years of Cliff, St. John with the offences of: Theft of five rods of sweet potatoes sometime between April 23 and 24, 2015.

Theft of ten rods of sweet potatoes sometime between July 9 and 10, 2015. Theft of eight rods of sweet potatoes sometime between December 14 and 16, 2015.

These thefts were committed against the Egdecumbe Plantation and Armag Farms.

No Certificate of Purchase

Police arrested and formally charged Yvette May Butcher 48 years of Chapel No. 1, St. Philip for the offence of No Certificate of Purchase which occurred on April 8, 2016.

The amount of 178 kgs of sweet potatoes was found in her possession. The police were carrying out investigations into crop thefts and executed a search warrant at the residence of Butcher.

The search discovered the sweet potatoes. Further investigations revealed that she did not have a certificate of purchase or receipt for the potatoes. Bennett, Inniss and Butcher were expected to appear at the District C Magistrates Court yesterday.
