Ann Hill School stages Craft Sale and Open Day

Students of the Ann Hill School showcased their handicraft skills when that educational institution held its Craft Sale and Open Day.

This event attracted both parents and members of the general public to the Pine Plantation Road, St. Michael school to view and purchase the work created by the students during the term. Some of the items on sale included leather craft, jewellery, basketry pieces, pottery and fibre arts pieces.

Attendees yesterday were also treated to hand massages by students from the Aesthetics Department.

Teacher and Co-ordinator of the event, Shane Grant, explained that the day formed part of a week of activities at the school in celebration of Barbados’ Independence. The planned events for the period started last week Wednesday with a cook-out on a wood fire.

“Every year our activities change. This year we focused on different things. We did the cook-out to show them how food was done before. We also had a tour to the museum this term to let them see Barbados of yesteryear.”

She added that Tuesday was a food demonstration day where top local chef, Creig Greenidge and award-winning mixologist, Philip “Casanova” Antoine, showed how different items can be prepared.

Turning her attention to speak about the response of students to the events, Grant said: “It is good. The children really enjoyed making the craft for the Craft Sale and they worked really hard.”

Yesterday’s Craft Sale and Open Day concluded with a show for the pupils featuring entertainers, Anderson “Blood” Armstrong, Shaquille Layne and Michael “Mikey” Mercer. The week will conclude on Friday with a school concert where students from every class will have a chance to perform for their peers. (MG)
