Alexander takes home Principal’s Award

Abraham Alexander of the Coleridge and Parry School was given the Principal’s Award for Best All-Round Student during the institution’s Annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony.

Alexander also took home the Gabrielle Gay Award for Excellence in Reading and Literacy, the Principal’s Award for Leadership, as well as subject prizes for his excellent work in CXC French and Geography.

During his remarks, Chairman of the Board of Management at the school, Reverend Canon Curtis Goodridge, sought to commend the teachers for their hard work and for making sure that, despite the dismal environment, they were still making sure that their students were well taken care of
in the education department.

Guest speaker and past student of the St. Peter institution, Matumuene Nlandu-Cave, encouraged the students to carve their own paths of success, and warned them against comparing their journeys with others.

“A positive pathway to success begins by not measuring oneself, using other people’s stick or the stick that the world gives you, but becoming a citizen of value,” she said.

“There is not only one way to succeed and everyone has their own path. On your path to success, you must make positive steps in order to obtain your goal.”

She then went on to list seven things that would be important for each individual to take note of, as they embarked on a path of success.

She noted that the first things students must be prepared for, was to sacrifice, as this was the biggest step. She stated that sometimes, this meant that they sacrifice the amount of time spent on social media, and devote that time to their education and bettering themselves.

She encouraged them to utilise the opportunities that may come their way, challenge themselves and capitalise on the wisdom and experiences of those around them.

She shared that it would be important to endure the hard times as successful people do not start at the top. And finally, she encouraged them to see the positives in the criticisms that they would inevitably receive and to seize the day.
