Acting PM thanked for opening additional shelter

OPPOSITION Leader Mia Mottley thanked Acting Prime Minister Richard Sealy for agreeing to a suggestion that could have assisted several persons in the constituency of the City of Bridgetown if the weather had worsened with the passage of Tropical Storm Matthew on Wednesday night.

In a statement issued by the Opposition Leader, Mottley thanked Sealy for agreeing to open another shelter for the people living in the City.

“There are currently no Category 1 shelters in the City of Bridgetown. The closest would be George Lamming Primary or Ellerslie Secondary,” she lamented.

She noted that through representation from the BLP Member of Parliament for the City of Bridgetown, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, contact was made with Sealy to have arrangements for the Chapman Street Church of God to be opened on Wednesday night. Mottley explained that this area was chosen because is it not a flood-prone area.

The Opposition Leader, who said a review will be made of the island after the all-clear is given, used the opportunity to thank members of the Department of Emergency Management, other emergency workers, members of the media, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Roving team for their assistance during the island-wide shutdown as a result of the severe weather.
