Abrahams dismisses Minister’s plan

OPPOSITION Senator and Shadow Minister of the Environment Wilfred Abrahams has dismissed the emergency plan announced by the Environment Minister to tackle the pile-ups of garbage on the island.

Saying that the Minister has finally turned up for work, the Opposition Senator reiterated his belief that the Sanitation Service Authority is being “set up to fail”.

“This failure would presage the arising of a new pharaoh who knew not Daniel. This Pharaoh would ride into town on the back of 15 new dump trucks offering to help the beleaguered SSA address the problems it was facing,” he charged.

“Lo and behold 15 new trucks are in the port with seemingly no one knowing to whom they belong, but looking very much like they have arrived just in time to help with a problem – in fact they would be ready to help in an “emergency plan”.

“We object to this new measure, we object because it reflects poor planning, it reflects badly on the workers of the SSA as it paints than as being lazy and inefficient. This Minister should have purchased new trucks years ago, to now claim the process of purchasing is protracted is nonsense as he should have had plans in place to meet the challenge without having to resort to an “emergency plan”.

Abrahams contends that opportunities are being created for a new entity which will benefit from what he describes as poor judgment on the part of the Minister.
