Minister of Creative Economy and Sports, John King is calling for those in the creative industry to support each other at the side event for the 8th meeting of culture and highest appropriate authorities at Hilton Barbados on Wednesday.

‘SUPPORT EACH OTHER’

There is a need for more collaboration and support among the artists and artistes in the creative industry.

Minister of Culture, Creative Economy and Sports, John King made this comment during his remarks at the “Superheroes of the Creative Economy” event on Wednesday. He said that the creative industry in Barbados must be able to support each other in tangible ways.

At the Hilton Barbados, Culture Minister told the artistic community that they must be able to “change the narrative” and engage the public in a different way. He said it is important to tell their story and give value to what they do.

“I challenge you this morning if you are not able to believe in yourselves that you have the ability to change what has been going on for almost forever… you have to be able to be bold enough to take the steps that weren’t taken before and you have to be able to pass on knowledge to the younger set of people who are coming. You also have to able to learn from them just as you would want them to learn from you,” said King.

The Minister added it is important to find solutions so they can do the things they have not done in the past. He noted that government has a role to play, but they the creative industry must be able to speak to government in a completely different way.
