‘Power of Choice’ initiative officially launches

The Power of Choice has partnered with Screenplay Advertising to officially launch “The Power of Choice” initiative yesterday morning at the St. Leonard’s Boys Secondary School.

Speaking at the launch, Principal of the Secondary School, Joseph Maynard expressed that he believed the initiative was an important one as it will challenge students to think about the decisions they make daily.

Managing Director of Screenplay Advertising, Shane Lewis, revealed that they donated ten screens to ten schools,on which The Power of Choice initiative will be brought to life.

He explained that ten positive messages will be displayed on each screen at each school. Lewis said that he believed it is important that people have access to positive messages and encouraged students, staff and other people to send various positive slogans and phrases, so that they may be projected on the screens.

The Power of Choice initiative, which is the brain-child of Errol Griffith, started his project by hanging banners which had these phrases written on them at different secondary schools.

Lewis revealed that he suggested they go beyond this idea, and incorporate technology as a way to further grasp the attention of students within the schools.

Principal of the Christ Church Foundation Secondary School, Robert Cumberbatch, explained that Griffith approached their school with this initiative and admitted that he was a little sceptical on how banners could be used to change the mindset of children, but after the hanging of these banners came to understand Griffith’s project a little better.

He reported that he did see a difference in his students and commended the forward thinking of incorporating the use of technology in the initiative as children tend to gravitate more towards technology these days.

He explained to persons present that The Power of Choice was trying to help them understand that every time you are offended by the actions of someone, your response does not have to be impulsive and you are reminded to think through situations better.

“I’m happy that the whole situation is enhanced with the use of the screens,” he said.
