‘English easy, Mathematics a little difficult’

WHILE the English paper was easy, the Mathematics paper, particularly Section Three, was “a little bit difficult”.

These were the sentiments expressed by the students who sat the Common Entrance Examination 2016.

Speaking with The Barbados Advocate yesterday at The St. Michael School, one of these students, Latisha Corbin, 10, a Prefect at The People’s Cathedral (TPC) Primary School, said that the English paper was easy, but she had some “problems with Section Three of the Mathematics paper”. For her Composition, she wrote on “As I looked out the window...”

Her top three choices were The St. Michael School, Queen’s College and Combermere with The St. Michael School being her top choice because she just “likes the school”.

She said that before going into the exam, her parents and teachers told her to check through her work and make sure she did not make any careless mistakes.

Deputy Head Girl at the TPC Primary School, Regina Lowe, 11, also spoke of the simplicity of the English paper and the difficulty of Section Three of the Mathematics paper.

Her top choice was also The St. Michael School because she likes the environment and her second and third choices were Combermere and the Foundation School respectively.

She said that before going into the exam, her parents and teachers told her to pray, stay calm and answer all of the questions.

Head Boy, also at the TPC Primary School, Louis Wilson, 11, said that the grammar was easy but the Mathematics was “quite hard”. For his Composition, he did ‘A place I have visited before’, where he wrote on Folkestone Park. His first choice was Queen’s College because it is “a more academically aggressive school with a good cricket programme and I love to play cricket”.

The advice that he got from his parents and teachers before heading into the exam was to pray before you do the exam and to trust in Jesus to help him.

Enya Haynes, 11, of the George Lamming Primary School, also stated that the English paper was easy while the Mathematics was harder. She chose to do the picture composition.

Her top three choices were Harrison College (HC), The St. Michael School and Combermere with HC being her first choice because some of her family members attended that school. (PJT)
