‘Barbados Got Talent’ starting soon

Given the popularity and longevity of karaoke in Barbados, Media Link Productions in association with Preconco Ltd and Rock Hard Cement Ltd will be hosting the Pre-Independence Island wide Karaoke Competition “Barbados Got Talent”.

The competition will be taking place on October 29 at the Barbados Police Sports Club in Weymouth at eight pm. However preceding this will be preliminaries held in each parish on the island, from which a first-place winner will be chosen to represent their parish at the final leg of the competition.

The person who wins second place will act as a reserve for the finals.

As karaoke has been a new source of entertainment for many, this is largely geared at community building and so, St. Lucy’s inter-parish competition will be at Moon Town (date to be announced), St. Peter’s will be at Le Bistro, Speighstown on August 25; St. Andrew’s will be at Bourne’s Identity, Shorey Village on September 24; St. John’s will be at the Martin’s Bay Tavern on September 29; St. Philip’s will be at Hoodies Bar, Six Roads on Sept 27; St. George’s will be at Jamoon’s Bar, Workmans on August 21; St. Thomas’s will be at the Lucky Horseshoe, Bagatelle on September 17; St. Michael’s will be at the Bush Bar, Pile Bay on September 15; St. James’s will be at Wendy’s Bar; Fitts Village on August 26; St. Joseph’s will be at Cathy’s Place, Blackmans on August 13 and Christ Church’s will be at the Dover Beach Kiosk Group on September 4.

On the night of the competition, each contestant will be allowed to sing a song of their choice for the first half and a local song for the second half in keeping with the spirit of independence. The local song will be made available to finalists on October 14 so that they have two weeks to prepare it.

Contestants will be vying for a record karaoke prize of $3 500, in addition to several other prizes.

The second place winner will receive $1 000 and the third place winner will receive $500. All other finalists will receive a $100 appearance fee.
