‘Into the Woods’ a fantastic production

“INTO the woods, Into the woods…” These lyrics remained on the lips of many as they exited the Frank Collymore Hall on Friday night. It was there that the large audience witnessed the scenes which unfolded in the musical production, ‘Into The Woods’.

This musical, which is the work of author of the book, James Lapine and the composer of the music and lyrics, Stephen Sondheim, was skilfully presented by the cast and crew of Operation Triple Threat (OTT).

The audience viewed the quests of the main fairy-tale characters as they sought to have their wishes fulfilled, and how this fulfilment resulted in later changes in their lives. The Baker and his wife set out on a journey to have the curse which had been placed on them by the witch removed. Jack set out to sell Milky White to obtain money. The little girl with the red cape travelled to her grandmother’s house, and Cinderella went into the woods to obtain her beautiful gown, so she could attend the Prince’s ball.

The opening night’s performance was enjoyable, with many humorous moments. OTT should not only be congratulated on celebrating their 5th anniversary, but all involved should take a bow for the superb way the night’s production was executed.

If there was one drawback during the performance, it would have been the unclear audio at points during the first half of the show. However, this was corrected by part two, and it remained crystal clear.

The songs rendered throughout the piece worked smoothly to link the segments, as well as express some of the characters’ feelings. Overall, ‘Into the Woods’ performed by OTT is worth viewing again.
