Looking towards 2017

The year 2016 is swiftly coming to a close. As we look to close out the year and ring in the New Year, many of us may be anxious about what 2017 will bring.

We cannot be any means predict the future, so we can only hope for the best. As such, let us give thanks that we are able to see the close of the year 2016 and on that note, determine to do better than we have in the past, in all areas of endeavour. By taking small steps, we can reach big goals and so, once we live to see 2017, there is no reason why we cannot determine to continue on our journey to accomplish those things that we have not yet attained.

We often talk of New Year resolutions, which are quite hard to keep for the most part. However, resolutions or no resolutions, we all have some things we have long placed on the back burner that we all need to work on and thus, we must still set plans in motion, to attain these goals. Don’t know where to start? Well, we can all start by paying attention to some key areas, for instance, our health – physical and mental, our finances, our spirituality and our relationships. Of course, persons can add to this list.

“The health of the people is the wealth of the people.” Indeed, this slogan should be in the forefront of our minds as we move forward, since we can achieve so much more, if our physical and mental states are well balanced. Once we have good health, other things will fall into place. So in all our planning for the New Year, we must include activities to boost physical and mental health to the max. Again, starting small is key. There is no use setting plans in place to run a marathon each week, knowing full well you can only manage a brisk walk around the block.

While we should by no means determine to get rich quick, most persons do want to be financially sound. So for 2017, we must certainly determine to spend wisely and save more. For those of us who have been neglecting those gifts and talents which can assure us an extra dollar, we must stop doubting our capabilities and make a try at setting up that new business or gaining that new skill that could possibly transform our lives, going forward.
I do believe that human beings are created to be spiritual beings and as such, we should not ignore the spiritual side. I do not believe that we should not only focus only on the physical side of things, as we will all have to give an account of our lives lived, here on earth. As such, we must feed our souls just as much as we feed our bodies.

We should also ensure that we feed and nurture our cherished relationships. Just as plants need to be fed and watered, we must embrace those relationships which are good for us and weed out the ones that do us no good. We must value good relationships with family and friends and ensure that they thrive, so that we have a support system to aid us, as we go through life with its many ups and downs.

Therefore, as you map out and make plans for 2017, just consider these areas and ensure that the meaningful things in life are not forgotten. Put your best foot forward, put your trust in Almighty God and
stare 2017 boldly in the face.
