BE VIGILANT
“We have seen our nation move from a position where we were outward looking and where we tended to accentuate and to elevate the values and the norms and the lifestyles of people outside of Barbados, while we tended to frown on our own, to a state where we now respect very highly what we are, what we represent and what we’re capable of contributing to the treasury of human civilisation,” the PM said, while noting however that this work is not yet complete.
He meanwhile called on Barbadians to recognise their importance and to come to the realisation that we are by no means inferior to other global players.
“I do not tire of saying that we as Barbadians do not claim to be better than anybody else. What we do claim though, is that we are as good as anybody else in the world. And I want that thought to become part of our very being. We are not inferior to anybody. As the Father of our Independence used to constantly remind us, we must never become imbued with a sense of our own inadequacy. We are not an inadequate people. We are equal to all of the challenges that people in larger nations, with larger populations meet and therefore, we are in a position to assert and to consolidate our independence,” Prime Minister Stuart asserted.
