Barbados needs your vote

Barbados not only has a high quality tourism product, but some of the best Caribbean tourism attractions known to man.

For a long time we have known that we are living in one of the best, if indeed not the best Caribbean island that many a potential visitor longs to visit and many more have taken the leap in visiting and return to time and time again. It should come as no surprise therefore, that it has been announced that we are up for a few nominations in the USA Today’s annual travel expert pole. Barbados has received five nominations in this US-based poll, in fact.

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) recently announced a total of five nominations in four categories, as designated by USA Today’s annual travel expert pole. Barbados has been recognised in the categories of Best Caribbean Attraction, Best Restaurant in the Caribbean, Best Caribbean Golf Course and Best Caribbean Dive Site.

The BTMI has noted further that, “St. Nicholas Abbey is currently ranked number one out of 20 in the Best Caribbean Attraction category, and George Washington House is ranked third; In the Best Restaurant in the Caribbean category. The Cliff Restaurant sits at number four out of 20 on the leader-board. Coming in at position number one out of 20 in the golf area, is the Green Monkey at Sandy Lane for the Best Caribbean Golf Course award and in the final category; Best Caribbean Dive Site, Carlisle Bay ranks second.”

It is now up to Barbadians “to lift Barbados to the number one standing in the USA on-line poll of Best Caribbean Tourism Attractions, by voting for the island, in the USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards”.
USA Today, utilising a panel of travel experts, has nominated their top picks in each category and now, Barbadians must make their votes count, to ensure that Barbados comes out on top in all of the categories that the island had been nominated in.

Let me just say a hearty “well done” to the management and staff of the various local tourism attractions and sites that have been nominated, those ably managing and running the St. Nicholas Abbey, George Washington House & Museum, The Cliff Restaurant, the Green Monkey Golf Course at Sandy Lane and Carlisle Bay. You have done us proud.

Kudos to the management and staff of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. and the Barbados Tourism Product Authority, and their local and international partners, for the job they have been doing to promote this beautiful, wonderful place that is a paradise.

Now each and every Barbadian must play a role in this process. So stop whatever you are doing and go online to vote for the island in the USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards. Each person is limited to one vote, per category, per day. The nominated categories can be found online at 10best.com/awards/travel/ and persons can vote here for the category of their choice. Voting has already begun, but it continues daily up until January 30, 2017. Therefore, fellow, Barbadians, tell a friend and let’s make our votes count.
