Companies shown importance of security solutions

Companies are being encouraged to adapt Information Technology (IT) policies or suffer new vulnerabilities.

From small companies which use business broadband services, to large companies and governments which use dedicated high speed internet access, organisations are more connected to the Internet than ever before.

“The Internet connection therefore brings with it great opportunity with great risk, if not managed,” says General Manager of Digicel Business, Martin Keogh.

“Your business is now dependent on the Internet, so you must adapt your IT policies to ensure you do so safely”.

Addressing the Digicel-Cisco Security Day seminar at Sandy Lane Resort yesterday, he shared with clients and potential ones that in the past, cyber criminals were not as commercially savvy as they were technically brilliant.

“That has changed,” he pointed out “Cyber-crime is now very big news and very big business, the cyber criminals are as expert commercially, as they are technically.”

He recalled the infamous Edward Snowden, who managed to capture and share millions of the most sensitive files ever stored by the CIA, as well as the recent revelations from the “Panama Papers” – 11.5 million leaked documents that detail financial and attorney-client information for more than 200 000 offshore entities.

“We are being constantly reminded how vulnerable organisations are without the right security framework. People and hardware and software will not be enough,” he explained.
Keogh revealed that Digicel Business offers increased visibility on suspicious applications, unusual bandwidth usage, application vulnerability reporting and access to advanced threat intelligence, all from one managed service console – under one contract, supported by one Service Level Agreement.

“Our security solutions allow organisations of any size and nature of business to immediately heighten their security posture and defend their critical assets while reducing the risk of a network breach, outage or loss of data.”

Digicel Business has formed multiple strategic vendor partnerships, such as Cisco, which leads the way worldwide in the provision of networks, Unified Communications and security.
Cisco representatives revealed the types of applications needed to police and protect networks, as well as to remediate and contain a security incident. (TL)=
