CFA Institute receives certificate of recognition

THE Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) has recognised the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute as an awarding body.

Yesterday, the Council presented the certificate of recognition to Inigo Bengoechea, Director of Government and Regulator Relations at the CFA Institute.

The presentation took place at the Council’s office, Manor Lodge Complex, Lodge Hill, St. Michael.

The award came after what Deputy Chair of the BAC Board of Directors, Ms. Bernadette Callender, said was a thorough evaluation of the CFA Institute.

“With that recognition ... learners can be assured that they are acquiring the same skills, expertise and competencies as learners pursuing the same programme in the awarding body’s home country of the USA,” she said.

Dr. Valda Alleyne, Executive Director of the BAC, said that the presentation is testimony to the commitment shown by the CFA Institute as “it seeks to quality assure its qualifications in Barbados and by extension, to the rest of the world”.

Dr. Alleyne said that the standards that awarding bodies must comply to meet recognition of awarding bodies are based on international best practices. “Therefore, recognition by the BAC provides that gateway to global recognition, which is our tagline,” she remarked.

In accepting the certificate, Mr. Bengoechea said it is a plus for the Institute as it would continue to prepare personnel for the local financial services sector.

Ms. Callender highlighted the significance of the award.

She said that recognition as an awarding body signifies acknowledgement of an organisation that grants qualifications to learners and has responsibility for developing qualifications, assesses and quality assures the qualifications, awards them, and provides customer service to approved centres and candidates.

As a requirement of the Council, a thorough evaluation of the CFA Institute’s operations was conducted.

“This evaluation included the CFA Institute’s submission of a self-evaluation report, based on the BAC’s criteria for recognition, and a site visit to its operations in the United States of America,” Ms. Callender added.
