BUSINESS MONDAY: ELECTRIC PUSH

THE proposed 100 per cent electrification in Barbados will provide the foundation for a more robust economy.

So said Roger Blackman, Managing Director of the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited (BL&P).

He made the comments while addressing a recent seminar at the Courtyard by Marriott.

“We at Light and Power, along with the Government of Barbados and other stakeholders, are working towards the national goal of 100 per cent Renewable Energy,” Blackman assured.

He told participants that it is going to happen in tandem with independent power producers, and 100 per cent electrification, which will provide the foundation for a green and sustainable economy.

According to him, “We are both accountable, delivering on our commitments to customers, stakeholders and our team members.”

The Light and Power official said that they have to be disciplined in managing opportunities and risks.

“We both seek continuous improve-ment because we have to, since standing still means moving backwards given the fast pace in which technology is evolving,” he pointed out.

Mr. Blackman maintained that they (the company and the Government) both anticipate and shape opportunities, as is evidenced by seminars such as this.

“Our partnership with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training is extremely timely since both of our organisations are resolute in the pursuit of creative solutions for Barbados and you, our principals, are the ones who can affect real change,” he remarked.
