Business Monday: BMEX preparations are going smoothly

EXECUTIVE Director of the Barbados Manufacturers Association (BMA), Bobbi McKay, says plans are moving ahead smoothly for this weekend’s BMEX Exhibition at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference Centre.

Speaking to Business Monday, McKay said that the “preparations are going according to plans, and we will be moving into LESC from Tuesday [tomorrow], where the preparations will be continuing”.

BMEX is Barbados’ premier manufacturers exhibition, and will start on Friday and continue into the weekend.

The high profiled event, which is sponsored mainly by the Barbados Manufacturers Association, and is held annually, is the showpiece for local manufacturers, exporters and service suppliers. It also highlights to the thousands of Barbadians who attend, the quality goods made in the country.

McKay said that among the other sponsors are the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation, Fund Access and Government’s Poverty Alleviation Department.

It will be highlighting the vast array of locally made goods which account for the more than half a million dollars, which the country earns annually from domestic exports. Several budding entrepreneurs, and those who provide goods and services solely for domestic consumption, will also be there.

The BMA’s official said that they have received excellent responses for booths. However, she noted that while some booths will be smaller, the interest is still there.

She also anticipates several small businesses will be participating. The participation of quite a few of them will be made possible through the Poverty Alleviation Unit.

There will also be the usual overseas buyers,  McKay noted. They will be coming from the USA, UK, Canada, Belize, and from some of the Caribbean and Latin American states. One plus in this is that included among the buyers will be those who had touched base with members of the Barbados trade missions to Panama and to some Caribbean countries.

“So we are quite excited, everything is on track, and it is coming on very well,” the BMA official added.
