Samuels, Ramdin on fire at Oval in WI’s first game

 

West Indies Marlon Samuels set Kensington Oval ablaze with an impressive century as the West Indies was sent in to bat in their first game at Kensington Oval in the Ballr Tri-Nation One Day International Series.
 
Coming up against Australia Samuels struck his first century against the side as he and Denesh Ramdin added an impressive 192 for the fourth wicket to lead the West Indies to 282 off their 50 overs.
 
Ramdin looked as though he would reach the century mark first but fell nine runs shy as he was bowled by Mitchel Starc on 91 off 92 balls. His innings included 5 boundaries and three sixes.
 
However Samuels who was on 95 when Ramdin departed, reach the milestone by tucking a ball onto the on side for a single in the 46th over off Josh Hazlewood.
 
Samuels had been given a life when he was caught on the boundary but the fielder had stepped on the boundary rope.
 
Australia are fighting to stay in the tournament as a loss would send them packing.
 
West Indies lost Johnson Charles in the first over, while Darren Bravo followed for 15 runs. Andre Fletcher was next to follow and the west Indies had slumped to 31/3 in the 9th over.
 
Starting with some rebuilding by defending Samuels and Ramdin rebuilt the West Indies innings to put them in a good position.
 
Mitchell Starc ended with 51/3, while James Faulkner and Scott Boland took two wickets each.
