Warren and White are 2009 Mud Dogs champions
11/20/2009
Former Novice Champions Dustin Edwards and Ryan Corbin ended their Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship season on a high, winning the Nassco November Safari on Sunday.
They also brought a smile to the sponsor’s face as well, as they won in their Blockman/SDRR Hydraulics/Crane & Equipment Toyota Hilux!
Meanwhile, despite their lowest finish of the year – fifth place following three previous top three results – Darrin White and Robert Warren (Flyin’ Fish/Lucky Locks Nissan Frontier) did enough to carry off the 2009 Driver and Navigator Championships.
The winners accrued 262 penalties and were the only crew to figure in the top six on both routes, third in the morning, fourth in the afternoon; their winning margin was just 32 penalty points, from Audley and Jeremy Croney, claiming their best result of the season in the JCB Excavators Suzuki Samurai, with Leslie and Anna-Lee Alleyne (Autozone Inc Mitsubishi Pajero) third, another 10 points behind, Anna-Lee collecting the award as highest-placed female.
Adrian Sinckler and Andre Murrell (Suzuki Samurai) were not only the leaders of the Novice Category after route one, but the event overall! With just 24 penalty points, they were more than 100 ahead of Dominic Brooker/Stephen Dear (SDRR Hydraulics/Next Generation Electrical/Joe Brooker’s Building Toyota Hilux) and Edwards/Corbin.
While they held on to their advantage among the novices in the afternoon and collected the trophies donated by Richard Daniel of Neptune Tours, along with a hat and mug from Nassco, they slipped down the overall order. Novice trophies were also presented to runners-up Matthew Durrant/Renne Mings (Tint Black Foot Flat Land Rover Defender) and third-placed David Brewster/ Winston Drakes (Marks Auto Parts/Champion Auto Wrecker Service Suzuki Samurai).
The route was set by 2005 Champion Navigator and Driver Neil Barnard and Barry Gale, whom Mud Dogs Chairman Leslie Alleyne thanked for their work: “It really was a fabulous event and a great way to end the year. We went on some roads that I had never been on in my life. It was clear that Barry and Neil had put a lot of time into this one, because the tricks and the lay-out of controls were very cleverly orchestrated.”
The Prize-giving was held last night (Tuesday) at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association Club House, where Nassco’s Neil Corbin presented awards: The winning crew took home $500 in credit at Nassco, with $300 and $200 for second and third.
Alleyne added: “The atmosphere last night was great and people stayed around a long time, chatting about the year and reliving memories of the previous events. I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for the year, our marshals and all of the competitors for making the 2009 season the success that it was.”
As Alleyne and wife Anna-Lee had been competing only for fun, they handed their $200 third prize to Simon Parravicino and Michael Jones (Toyota Hilux); although complete novices, they had showed great enthusiasm and finished 11th of the 22 crews on route two. They also won the Encouragement Award, donated by Biddy Barber, and a hat and mug from Nassco.
The Mud Dogs will join other members of the Barbados Rally Club for the Annual Prizegiving today where the year-end awards will be presented. |
